Ready to become someone who finally breaks free from toxic relationship patterns? Keep reading.

We all have patterns that show up like clockwork in our relationships. Those patterns that pull you back into the same pain, emotional loops, and the old version of yourself you swore you outgrew & healed from. And if you’re anything like me, you’ve wondered why you can be so self-aware, spiritually tapped in, and so deep in your healing journey… and still find yourself slipping into old habits with people and past connections who never deserved that level of access to you and your energy.
Here’s the truth most people don’t want to say out loud, sis:
Awareness isn’t enough to break a pattern.
Love isn’t enough to heal it.
Time isn’t enough to outgrow it.
You have to face the wounds that created it in the first place.
The Universe Keeps Giving You Chances to Choose Differently
When the past comes back around, whether it’s an ex, a trigger, a familiar emotional dynamic, or a version of yourself you thought you healed from, it’s not a sign that you failed. It’s showing you that life is giving you another chance to choose differently. You get another chance to choose you.
But, let’s be real… choosing yourself over toxicity isn’t a soft, aesthetic moment. You’re not gonna wake up the next morning magically healed. Choosing yourself is raw. Uncomfortable. It exposes every wound you’ve tried to cover up and possibly even ignore. It shows you the exact places you still abandon yourself, tolerate too little, and chase after what and who has repeatedly hurt you.
The Core Wounds That Keep You Stuck
That’s why toxic, unpredictable and chaotic emotional patterns feel so powerful. These aren’t just habits, sis. They’re strategies your nervous system built when you didn’t have a clear understanding of what love should feel like. If you grew up feeling emotionally neglected, unseen, or constantly having to earn affection, you learned that love wasn’t safe unless you were working for it. So now as an adult, your heart confuses intensity with intimacy. Unpredictability with passion. And emotional chaos with connection.
It’s time to see that your inner child is the one driving the car every time you chase someone who can’t love you back the way you deserve to be loved. She’s the part of you who needed connection so badly, so she accepted breadcrumbs of affection because the bare minimum was all you knew. You learned to be grateful for lackluster attention. You silenced your needs to feel chosen, even just for a moment. You were conditioned into believing that love meant self-sacrifice, over-giving, and holding on tighter when someone pulled away.
Your inner child memorized chaos because it felt familiar. Stability feels uncomfortable when all you’ve ever known is inconsistency. Healthy love can feel boring when your nervous system is addicted to the highs and lows of toxicity. That rush you feel when someone inconsistent suddenly shows up? That’s not love, babe. It’s your body responding to the same emotional rollercoaster it was conditioned to survive.
And let’s keep it all the way real: your inner child stayed loyal to pain because pain felt predictable. When you’ve spent years believing that love = abandonment, betrayal, rejection, there’s a part of you who would rather choose this familiar pain than risk an unfamiliar healthy love. Predictable pain feels safer than unknown safety. That’s how deep this healing shit goes.
These patterns aren’t proof that you’re weak or “stupid” for going back. They’re proof of how strong your survival instincts are. Your brain is wired to return to what it knows, even when what it knows is hurting you. Trauma bonds feel magnetic because they activate the wounded parts of you that still believe love must be earned, proved, or chased.
I need you to remember this: The Universe isn’t sending you the same man, the samedynamic, or the same heartbreak to punish you. It’s giving you another opportunity to make a different choice. Every time that familiar pattern shows up, it’s a Spiritual mirror saying:
“Are you ready to choose yourself yet? Ready to break this cycle? Will you finally become someone new?”
God will keep sending the same test until you finally rewrite the lesson. Because once you choose the version of you that refuses to settle, chase, or abandon herself, the pattern loses its power & the wound stops running your life. The little girl inside learns what it feels like to be protected instead of betrayed. This is where healing actually begins. Not when you understand the pattern, but when you stop participating in it.
Healing the Pattern Requires Healing the Root
If breaking these patterns were about willpower, I’m sure you would’ve walked away the first time you got hurt. The pull you feel toward familiar dynamics has nothing to do with weakness and everything to do with old wounds that were never soothed. Until you address the belief that shaped that understanding, you will keep gravitating toward the same story.
Ask yourself hard questions like:
Why does this dynamic feel like home? What am I afraid will happen if I walk away? Who taught me that my needs were too much? Where did I learn that I have to earn love?
Healing the root means getting super fucking real with yourself and asking these types of questions that most people avoid. Many times, the answers you get usually point back to early childhood moments, past relationship dynamics, or environments where love came with conditions. Once you recognize the pattern(s) for what it is, emotional chemistry you clung to starts making sense in a completely different way.
Emotional crumbs no longer feel satisfying. Stability starts to feel safer than chaos. Choosing yourself becomes less about proving something and more about honoring what your heart needs. When you heal the root, your nervous system learns a new baseline for love built on safety, reciprocity, and respect, and that is the moment the old pattern finally loses its power.
Triggered Doesn’t Mean You’re Not Healing
Let me tell you something, sis… healing doesn’t mean you’ll never feel that pull again. It means the trigger no longer drives the car. Truthfully speaking? I still feel it sometimes, especially after reconnecting with a really unhealthy dynamic with a person from my past pretty recently.
A song comes on, a memory pops up, or I see a notification and my stomach drops. My mind immediately wants to go back to the fantasy, the version of him I fell in love with, and the moments that felt intoxicating and irresistible. That used to send me straight into panic, or reaching out, or trying to reattach myself to someone who already showed me who he really is.
The difference now is in how I respond. When that last connection hit me with “Girl, fuck you,” old me would’ve spiraled. I would’ve defended myself, cursed him out, or tried to explain my heart and feelings to him. I would’ve begged to be understood, or used my body as a way to feel chosen again. I would’ve clung onto hope that the sweet, romantic version of him would eventually show up again… Spoiler alert: he didn’t (and refuses to) make a permanent change.
Instead, I felt trigger as fuck and yet, I stayed still. I saw the hurt, rejection, and my core abandonment wound light up in my body. What did I do? I chose not to react. All I said was “Take care of yourself” and protected my peace. That moment showed me how much I’ve actually grown.
Do I still feel this way? Yes and no. Let me explain.
Last night tested every ounce of growth I thought I had. The loneliness hit hard, not speaking for over 24 hours got to me and I experienced wave of grief. There was part of me that still wanted closure from him. What did I do?
I ended up messaging him… twice.
The second I sent them, I felt that familiar wave of regret wash over me. My heart was hurting, my body went straight into survival mode and I cried myself to sleep. There were so many feelings of embarrassment, disappointment, and honestly feeling heartbroken that I still had a reaction over him in me.
But this morning changed everything. I woke up with a clearer mind and a calmer nervous system. Before he had the chance to read those messages and respond, I unsent both of them… THANK GOD! I refuse to give him access to that vulnerable version of me who was reaching out from pain rather than truth. That simple act of choosing myself showed me that when you slip up, correct the mistake and choose youagain… over & over as many times as you need to. The past version of me would’ve waited by the phone, hoping he would reply and give me the validation I need. I would’ve spiraled all day. Instead, I protected my dignity, picked up my laptop and got to writing a new blog post.
Growth doesn’t erase the triggers. It shows up in how quickly you return to yourself after the trigger. I reacted in a moment of hurt, yes, but I made a different choice once the smoke lifted. Healing is measured by the moments you realign with who you are becoming. I honored the woman I am trying to grow into, not the one who still aches to feel chosen.
So yes, there are still moments where the old pattern feels tempting. There are nights where the wound takes over the wheel. But choosing myself again showed me that I am not who I used to be. I’m learning to soothe my own heart instead of handing it to someone who has already proven they cannot hold it.
Becoming the Woman Your Younger Self Needed
Breaking emotional patterns is messy as fuck. Some days you feel unstoppable, aligned, like the High Priestess or The Empresses in tarot. Other days? You find yourself slipping into familiar thoughts & reactions. The 3 of Swords shows up once again or that Towermoment comes crashing down like a ton of bricks. Trust me, boo, I get it.
But hear me when I say that these moments do not mean you failed. It means you’re a fucking human being. You’re peeling back layers that were formed in survival, and stepping into a version of yourself built from self-worth, truth, and emotional maturity. Choosing yourself once felt impossible. Now, it’s becoming the only choice that makes sense. That shift is you finally realizing you’re worthy of the love you kept trying to earn from someone else.
This season of your life is not about proving anything to anyone. It is about showing the little girl inside you that she is safe now. She is protected. She is heard. She is chosen by the one person who will never leave her again: you.
You’re breaking patterns that generations before you repeated without questioning. You out here healing wounds that were handed to you long before you ever had the language for them. You are rewriting your story in real time.
Sis, becoming this woman is changing the entire direction of your life. It’s shaping the love you will one day allow in. You’re creating peace you once begged for. This is the moment everything begins to shift in your favor, because you finally chose the one person who has always deserved your loyalty…yourself 🖤
